The old Give-and-Go

GQ has given us a wonderful, wonderful gift- a gift that hasnt stopped giving for the past two weeks. We can’t stop thinking about this article about NBA groupies. We love the way the girls breakdown the different castes of groupies. We love the way the girls talk about who’s fly and who’s a candystriper. We love the fact that the groupies have groupies. It is like opening an old medicine cabinet and finding a tiny living Indian inside.

Then we saw these photographs. First, we see what the women look like during the day, a relatively butch looking crew. Then we see what they look like at night and oh my sweet Jesus on the cross. And these are the “Fly Girls,” girls that are considered one step below the Eva Longorias of the NBA world. The idea of this makes us reach for our Kettel and Red Bull. What? We’re not allowed to be trendy?

Is this really the best we can do for our boys in mesh? There is no one else available to go down on the nation’s hardwood stars? Sure, some of them aren’t the most attractive men around but, if you listen to Jay Bilas, they all possess that undeniable gift of length. I guess we could understand if this is the punishment for being a shoot-first PG but if you’re an energetic combo guard with All-Star quality game, you deserve more than a Craigslist ”casual encounters” regular. Please.

On a slightly different note, Rebuilding Year had trouble understanding what the Knicks really meant earlier this year when they suspended center Jerome James for being “unprepared to practice”. But with these pictures revealed it’s finally clear why Jerome couldn’t get out of bed in the morning.

  1. [...] As for the story, let us say that it is gratifying to read that the boys at the end of the Knicks bench made an impression on Chloe. We suspected she’d be easier to charm then Larry Brown. And she would certainly represent an upgrade from a> href=”http://rebuildingyear.wordpress.com/2006/07/12/the-old-give-and-go”>these women . [...]
