why you should follow this US Open

We really love Roger Federer and David Foster Wallace’s treatment of him and his rivalry with Nadal in the New York Times. The metaphor of Roger and Nadal as Apollo and Dionysus has stuck with us all day.

And now we have this NPR interview to enjoy. Here’s a great quote from DFW:

“He’s (Federer) beautiful. He’s really really beautiful in the way that most American sports fans would associate with Michael Jordan. Where it almost seems like it’s a mutation, or somebody from a slightly different species whose relationship to physical laws is somewhat different.”

That’s right on the money.
